In an effort to enhance student learning and engagement, students are recommended to have an iPad for the Making Connections course. All incoming, first year students take the Making Connections course, which focuses on transitioning students into college-level learners by introducing critical academic skills and campus resources. This year, Making Connections will embed technology into the curriculum.
All first year students are recommended to have an iPad to better prepare for the demands of the workplace. Faculty and students will explore study skills, personal organization, and research using the apps available on the iPad. Students will also be able to access the course text and other books using digital text. A-State envisions students will have the sophisticated technical advantage to be competitive in a variety of settings.

Students can buy their iPad at the IT Store, bring their own iPad, or rent an iPad.
Purchasing your iPad at the IT Store means incoming freshmen can get everything needed for the Making Connections class in one stop in the center of campus.

Purchasing technology and supplies from the IT Store will save money and provide additional support. You will also have a friendly store staff in the heart of campus ready to assist you with your iPad, iBooks, and apps.
If you already own an iPad that meets the required specifications, you are all set.
Please note if you have an iPad that does not meet the required specifications, you can use this in your class. However, there may be some limitations with the device. We will accommodate any limitations to the best of our ability.
The cost to rent an iPad will be $50.00 per semester. The maximum rental cost of the iPad will be $150.00 per year (spring, summer, and fall terms). The $50.00 will be charged to your student account upon pickup. The iPad rentals are iPad mini 2s. iPads for rent can be picked up at the A-State IT Store during the first week of school.
You are required to return your rental iPad at the end of every term.
You will need to complete the “iPad Rental Reserve Form” form for the rental option. More information will be provided to you on the rental in your email.
